Not Ready

I have seen you through the peephole in my door.
You came calling several times, unannounced.
I said: "Go away! I am busy."
So you went.

I can be a most gracious and affable host,
If you phone ahead and make an appointment.
Maybe we can pencil you in for the next decade.
If it would be convenient, perhaps we can do lunch.

Guess what? I am still busy.
I have a wife, children, and grandchildren
To be there for.
To be, therefor.

It is, after all, still my house,
And I have a lot more to write about.
I have lots more places to go, people to see,
But I really would be interested to meet you, someday.
