[1865 - Thirteenth Amendment to Constitution ratified by 27 of then 36 states]
neither slavery nor involuntary servitude... shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
[1916 - End of the WW-I Battle of Verdun] When the Battle of Verdun ended after ten months, 650,000 lives had been lost. The fronts of the Allied and German forces were in about the same place they had been before the battle began.
[1965 - The Delta River Patrol Group (Task Force - 116) is established in the Vietnam Delta] A first rate fighting force in an unnecessary, third rate war.
Time To Go
After refusing to admit in a nationally televised interview on Friday that he had authorized the top-secret National Security Agency (NSA) to spy on US citizens, President Bush 'fessed up on Saturday, when there was no opportunity to question him further. Not only did he confirm issuing an executive order authorizing this domestic spying on citizens, but he seems to be proud of it.
The Presidential statement was this: "The American people expect me to do everything in my power under our laws and Constitution to protect them and their civil liberties,"
This is true, Mr. President, but you have not met those expectations. There is nothing in the Constitution or in federal law that gives you the authority to spy on US citizens without court supervision. You should resign immediately, as you have violated the public trust. If you will not resign, and if Congress has any spine left, you should be impeached and removed from office. Your high crimes are no less than those of another president who misused the powers of his office and diverted federal resources into improper spying activities on citizens.

It is time to remove this cancer on the body politic, lest it prove fatal.
