[1860 - William Jennings Bryan, gifted orator & three-time presidential candidate is born.]
Fine Whine
Whenever one of our fellow citizens rails against the French for not supporting the President's invasion of Iraq, William is reminded that one of the most beloved and recognizable symbols of this Nation is a gift to this country from the French People. Indeed it is doubtful that there would even be a United States of America but for the help that this country received from France in its infancy. It is well to remember that Lady Liberty, like all of us excepting the Native Americans, is an immigrant.
From Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and from L'Enfant Plaza in Washington, D.C., to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, the French have left their mark on this Great Land of ours.
Vive la France!
