Hail to the Chief Executive

Many citizens who today lacked the means or the patience to penetrate the armed fortress that once was the open capitol of our democracy instead watched the inauguration ceremony on television. We saw an impressive call to arms, liberally laced with the symbols and traditions of war, and it will no doubt inspire many to stay the course (as if the faithful needed any further encouragement). The coronation having been completed, the President gave a darn good sermon, with the attending clergy a close second.

Top honors of the day for candor, however, went to the preacher who gave the closing benediction in which he called on the Almighty to bless the sacred corporate financial statements. We see here the beginning of a new national tradition in keeping with the blessing of troops before they invade foreign countries, the Red Mass, and the insistence on including God as an integral part of the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America. This latest innovative invocation of divine authority on behalf of Corporate America will no doubt bring a measure of comfort to the body of overpaid, under performing, avaricious CEOs, who, along with their creative accounting and law firms, are having second thoughts about their fraudulent financials. It will surely take a Higher Power to justify what went into their P & Ls.

It is about time that the clergy openly paid homage to the true power that rules on this planet. The unholy trinity, let's see; that would be: the corporate father, the governmental son, and the priesthood.
